Before your tattoo appointment
Here are some things you can to prior to you tattoo appointment to make your sessi0n more enjoyable.
Get a good nights rest.
Eat a big meal at least an hour and a half before.
(This help prevent your blood sugar dropping and you possibly passing out).
Make sure you are hydrated
Don’t psych yourself out.
(Yes tattoos hurt, but they don’t hurt as bad as you think)
Limit the people you bring.
Do not drink the night before, or during your appointment.
Do not use drugs prior or during tattoo session.
What I recommend
AfterCare for your tattoo.
For Aftercare this is what I recommend for the tattoo healing process.
First and foremost, although this is a beautiful brand new tattoo to you this is an open wound, and if open wounds are not properly taken care of, they can get infected or irritated.
There are plenty of different ways you can approach this but this is how I explain it.
Understand we are trying go against how the human body wants to heal and if it scabs that is just what your body chooses to do.
Wash tattoo with warm water and antibacterial soap.
Pat dry with a clean paper towel, and let sit for 10 minutes until it is dry.
Apply a thin layer of white no-scented hand lotion or Aquaphor.
(less is more. if you question if there is enough, there is.)
Follow those steps 3 times a day for the first 3 to 4 days
When the tattoo begins to flake or peel like a bad sun burn, start washing it twice a day and using lotion twice a day for the following 2 weeks.
NO Saunas, swimming, super hot long steamy showers, or submerging under water for 2 weeks
Keep out of direct sun light for 2 weeks.
Make sure to drink plenty of water.
(The more hydrated you are the more hydrated you skin is.
And if you can get a good amount of steps in a day that will help. Blood flow helps the healing process.
NO GYM FOR 1 WEEK.
For Hand Tattoos and Knuckle Tattoos
When it comes to hand, tattoos and knuckle, tattoos, my recommendation is to keep them as dry as possible.
First and foremost, these are open wounds and can get infected or irritated if not properly taken care of. The world is a dirty place take care of your hands.
Wash your tattoo, thoroughly with warm water and antibacterial soap.
Pat Tattoo dry with a clean paper towel. And let it sit for 10 minutes to completely dry.
Then apply a thin layer of white noun and hand lotion or a non-scented basic Chapstick.
The Chapstick allows a little bit of moisture, which is perfect for your hands or knuckles.
Do this at least 3 to 4 times a day.
And on the fourth or fifth day switch to washing it twice a day, lotion it twice a day.
(Less is more, especially on Knuckles and hands.)
For the next 2 to 3 weeks, you want to limit water exposure to hands other than washing them. Don’t allow your fingers or hands to prune.
Other than that, follow the Other basic instructions up above. no gym, sauna, water, etc.
If Your Tattoo Is Healing Rough
If your tattoo is healing rough, feel free to reach out to the shop and we will point you in the best direction you should go.
We are not medical professionals, if you feel that you need to seek medical attention please do.
However, if you want to get our opinion first, we will let you know. Like I said above, the body likes to heal however it likes to heal best. And we are going against the natural order of things when it comes to your body.
If you feel like your body is starting to have an irritation that could lead to an infection Bacitracin is a great ointment for that.
Make sure you are thoroughly cleaning your tattoo. But do make sure you allow the Tattoo to dry out thoroughly before applying lotion or ointment so you don’t trap extra moisture on the Tattoo.
If your tattoo is scabbing or cracking from the scabbing. Still keep your tattoo clean just don’t apply any ointment or lotion to it allow it to dry and, unfortunately, take its course. Also, this would be a good opportunity to use a non-scented basic Chapstick as that will apply a little bit of Moisture to the problem area.
The longer you fight the scabbing process the longer it will take your tattoo to heal.
Be advised that pet dander is rampant with staff and all sorts of other bacteria, So please be aware of what your animal may be exposed to and your fresh tattoo.
Any other concerns or questions about healing please reach out, or come to the shop and talk to us in person do not put this off.
